If we keep doing the same things we have always done, we can’t expect to drive change. Which is why we approach every day with a constant curiosity. And for Mark that means asking a lot of questions that lead to unordinary – and extraordinary – outcomes.
“I ask a lot of questions because I am curious about many things. In my experience, you can always find the answers if you keep asking.
My curiosity drives me to constantly look for new ways to improve and innovate. When I see a problem or an area that could be improved, I feel driven to try to find a solution.
For example, I started investigating the environmental impact of discarded electronics. Do you know that e-waste is one of the fastest-growing waste streams in the world? I wanted to increase awareness of this while considering our corporate environmental strategy at the same time.
I thought, let's try to make a protective laptop sleeve using our own waste materials -showcasing how circular economy works in practise. To do this we have used the unwanted clothes of colleagues in production.
We've also created other tangible products with production scrap and upcycled plastic waste from the ReMed programme, like vases and ID-card holders for new employees. Once you have an idea it’s about experimenting, prototyping, and collaborating with others to bring the ideas to life.
These initiatives are much more than just products; they are conversation starters about sustainability and circular economy. When people see and use them, it helps them understand and engage with our sustainability goals. I see a growing interest in the topic from colleagues all around the business. People want to know how they can make a positive contribution.
My dream is that sustainability becomes an integral part of everyone’s daily decisions at Novo Nordisk. And we're getting there, day by day.”
