Position
Student Assistant - GEM Cell Hub
Job description
Job Title: Student Assistant – GEM Cell Hub
Department: GEM Cell Hub (Genome Engineering & Manufacturing of Stem Cell-Derived Cell Types), Therapeutics Discovery, Research & Development
Location: Måløv, Denmark
Your impact begins here
As Student Assistant in the GEM Cell Hub, you will help keep our stem cell laboratories running smoothly, so scientists and laboratory technicians can focus on experimental work. You will make sure reagents, consumables and workspaces are ready, support routine sample preparation and, after training, help maintain human pluripotent stem cells (hPSCs) and ongoing cell differentiations. Your reliable day-to-day support helps the team deliver high-quality stem cell-derived cells for drug discovery.
What you’ll bring
You enjoy contributing to a well-organised laboratory and understand why reliable day-to-day support matters for research. You take initiative, ask questions when needed, and approach both routine and new tasks with care and curiosity. You will also bring:
- Enrolment in a relevant study programme, such as biotechnology, biology, biomedicine or a related field.
- An interest in laboratory work and a willingness to learn new techniques and procedures.
- A structured, reliable and detail-oriented approach, with the ability to organise and follow through on practical tasks.
- Good collaboration and communication skills, and comfort communicating in English and working as part of a team.
- Availability for agreed weekend work to support cell culture maintenance.
Useful, but not essential:
- Previous hands-on laboratory experience.
- Experience with cell culture, particularly aseptic techniques or the maintenance of mammalian cell types such as hPSCs.
What you’ll do
Your main focus will be the day-to-day operation of our laboratories, making sure everything is ready for experimental work. You will:
- Restock laboratory consumables and monitor stock levels, so essential supplies are always available.
- Help order reagents and consumables, receive deliveries and organise laboratory storage.
- Keep laboratories clean, organised and well-functioning, including routine upkeep of shared workspaces and equipment.
- Assist scientists and laboratory technicians with routine sample preparation and other practical laboratory tasks, following established protocols.
- Support routine cell culture tasks after appropriate training, including weekend maintenance of hPSCs and ongoing cell differentiations, with tasks and scheduling agreed with the team.
- Keep accurate records of your assigned laboratory tasks and follow relevant safety procedures.
Who you’ll work with
You will join the GEM Cell Hub in Therapeutics Discovery, part of Research & Development, where colleagues explore scientific ideas and advance them towards clinical testing. The hub supports drug discovery by generating stem cell-derived cell types for target discovery, screening assay development and drug screening.
The team provides high-quality stem cell-derived cells for a range of research applications, while continuously developing methods and processes to meet different requirements for cell types, quality and quantities. Working closely with colleagues across stem cell biology, cultivation technology and assay development, the team makes these cells accessible to researchers across Novo.
Day to day, you will work closely with scientists and laboratory technicians in Måløv, contributing to the laboratory operations that make this work possible.
What you can expect here
You will gain hands-on experience in a research laboratory and practical insight into stem cell research in a collaborative research setting. You will receive training before taking on cell culture tasks, and you will be encouraged to ask questions, learn new techniques and grow alongside experienced colleagues in a dynamic research environment.
Salary and Benefits: This position is hourly paid. For this position, the hourly base rate is 209,27 DKK, based on an assessment of relevant factors such as experience, educational background, demonstrated competencies, and the specific skills required for the position. In addition to the hourly base rate, Student Assistants are entitled to a pension scheme (currently 10% employer contribution and 5% employee contribution).
