The Position

Lead a team of Direct Reports out of Plainsboro, NJ (Novo’s US Commercial HQ) and Indirect Team in manufacturing and R&D. Deputise for the VP, Global Security as required for operation in the US. Primary business partner and adviser across US Operations Executive team areas, for US security needs. Deploy Security initiatives and ensure compliance with NN security standards and SOPs within the United States, working through the network of Security Champions and in close partnership with the VP of Global Security. Support response to major crisis and incidents.

 

Relationship

Reports to VP, Procurement & Business Operations, dotted line to VP Global Security.

Number of subordinates with direct referral: 2

Number of subordinates with indirect referral: 50+

Local Security Champion, contract security teams across the United States.

 

Internal- Leaders (SVP, CVP, some VP Levels) in US Operations as well as functional leaders (Legal, Compliance, Marketing, Sales EHS, Communication, IT, P&O) as needed. Global Security CoE Leads, Site Security Leads & Security Champions.

 

External- Senior Law Enforcement Professionals (e.g. FBI, DHS local PD, Intelligence agencies etc) Third party consultants and providers & Peers in external organizations.

 

Essential Functions

  • Lead the Physical Security Function in the US
    • Direct and mentor the team of US Security site leaders
    • Develop strong understanding of business structures, priorities and associated security risks
    • Accountable for the delivery of Security services across the US, in partnership with the heads of CoEs in Global Security
    • Represent the US Security Function within the Global Security Partnering Team
  • As US Security Strategy and Operations Lead for the US
    • Business Partnering
      • Develop strong understanding of the US based structure and ensure a fit for purpose security governance is in place across sites
      • Support key projects by providing tailored advice
      • Provide assurance and oversight of the security and resilience status to US Leadership
      • Partner with relevant Law Enforcement Agencies
    • Physical and People Security
      • Direct and undertake Site Security Assurance Reviews as part of the enterprise program
      • Provide level 2 advice to physical security projects
      • Support the deployment of the Personal Protective Services and Event Security programs in the US
    • Product Security
      • Partner with Product Safety Team to deploy physical safety technology across US sites
    • Resilience
      • Support the deployment of the Resilience framework
      • Deliver Crisis Response Team training
      • Join Crisis Response Teams as required and support response to critical incidents
    • Communication and Awareness
      • Support the communication of global security initiatives in the US
      • Deliver security awareness sessions as needed
  • Type of communication
    • Reach agreement on deliverables, educate and influence risk management decisions, offer new perspectives and ideas
    • Understand and influence global requirements, obtain assistance and expertise on CoE topics, align to Global Security strategies
    • Collaborate with site security, HR and Global Security to agree on key projects, influence central priorities and deliver on these
    • Very regular two-way communication in place to ensure a solid Security Champions network is in place, local needs are understood and oversight is provided
    • Represent Novo Nordisk US, collaborate with law enforcement, support enforcement activities, collect and dispatch information as necessary
    • Lead delivery and establish a partnership approach with third parties, including global providers
    • Represent Novo Nordisk, regularly benchmark best practices and be an ambassador of the company. Collaborate within the framework of legitimate organizations

 

Physical Requirements

Approximately 40-50% overnight travel, including some international travel.  License to carry firearms. Must be in top physical shape.

 

Development Of People

Supervisory. Ensure that reporting personnel have individual development plans (IDP), with annual goals and measurements that are consistent with the priorities of the business, and that interim reviews are held so that their work is focused on those priorities, and they understand their level of accountability for results and the measurement process. Ensure that the IDP forms include completed learning and aspiration plans and are in place for all reporting personnel to enable the achievement of goals and capability to assume increased levels of responsibility. Manage the application and communication of all Novo Nordisk policies, procedures, and Novo Nordisk Way.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree required; Masters Degree preferred; relevant experience can be substituted for advanced degree
  • Security certifications are a plus
  • 15+ years of professional experience including
    • Security experience within a law enforcement, military, intelligence or corporate security function
    • Experience running corporate security programs
    • Experience with personal executive protection
  • Must be in top physical shape; FBI fitness requirements are the benchmark
  • Entrepreneurial spirit, self-driven and result-oriented individual with a can-do attitude
  • License to carry firearms
  • Must be able to lift heavy items
  • Able to work in a matrix organization with multiple stakeholders
  • Deliver in ambiguous and fast changing environment, with a strong ability to prioritize
  • Able to communicate at all levels of the organization
  • Strong business partnering skills, a genuine interest and understanding of the commercial/business side of things
