Join Novo Nordisk Consulting and boost your career

Novo Nordisk Consulting is Novo Nordisk’s in-house management consultancy. We work on high impact projects across the value chain, from R&D to the commercial organisation. Projects can be strategic or operational in nature, but are always important to Novo Nordisk, as every project is approved by a member of Executive Management. Scroll down to see examples of projects.

We are a dynamic organisation of currently 20-25 people and a talent incubator for Novo Nordisk – we recruit, train and export talent into the wider Novo Nordisk organisation. You can meet some of our people below.

We offer a chance to work on interesting projects for one of the world’s most successful pharmaceutical companies. Work-life balance is a priority and in general is more achievable in in-house consulting than external consulting. We have been there.

We provide flexibility, self-determined work and senior management exposure. While we occasionally travel for work, you decide when it is best for you and the project. The parents among us appreciate the ability to leave work early to pick up the kids and work later in the evening. You will often work directly with senior leaders. We work hard, but also appreciate having a good work-life balance.

For international candidates - Denmark is consistently voted one of the happiest countries on earth. The world has woken up to the benefits of the Danish ‘hygge’. We are based in Copenhagen, so this is a great opportunity to experience the Scandinavian lifestyle.

We work very closely with the organisations we serve. In general, we are 100% allocated to a project and bring our project management and problem-solving expertise to the project. We then partner with functional experts from the organisation to ensure the project delivers an outcome that is accepted and implemented by the organisation.

We work across the full pharmaceutical value chain – research & development, manufacturing, marketing & sales and support functions such as Finance – at a global scale. Most projects are based in headquarter, but some might require travel to locations across the globe.

What we value are people who take an issue-driven approach to problem solving and can communicate their findings effectively to our stakeholders. In general, we are looking for people with a background from leading management consultancies and strategy departments from well-known multi-nationals. Our people come from top-tier consultancies, such as McKinsey and BCG, as well as boutique consultancies.

Further, we frequently hire graduates from leading universities with a diverse set of educational backgrounds to join our team as associates. For this position, work experience is not a prerequisite. A background in healthcare and/or experience from healthcare projects would be an asset but is not compulsory. Part of the fun is learning about the industry through our projects and formal training programmes.

We are not looking for specific backgrounds. If you have a different master’s degree than the examples in the job post (i.e. economics, business administration, engineering, science, medical) you might still have a relevant profile. In general, we are looking for people with excellent results from well recognised master’s degrees.

We are flexible on start date. We are normally interested in people starting as soon as possible, but we can also accommodate for candidates who need some months before they can start (for example if they need to finish studies or move to Denmark).

From Monday to Thursday, we are typically located at the office of our “client team” in the greater Copenhagen area (e.g. Bagsværd, Søborg, Måløv). On Fridays, we come together with our department in our HQ in Bagsværd.

Most of our projects are in the Copenhagen area (mainly Bagsværd or Søborg). A few projects require business trips, for example to facilitate workshops with affiliates in other countries.

Project Associates, Senior Project Associates and Project Managers are typically 100% allocated to one project at a time.

We typically work on senior management’s top priorities across the value chain. For example, projects in the past were about business development (acquisitions and integration of biotech companies), sustainability business plans, strategy for loss of exclusivity of top selling products, strategy for expanding into new therapy areas or customer segments, increasing production capacity for critical products.

After receiving applications, we do a screening and invite top candidates for interviews.

The first interview round includes an introduction to the department and two case interviews similar to case interviews in management consulting companies such as McKinsey, BCG and Bain. The purpose of case interviews is to test candidates’ analytical skills, structure, numerical skills and business acumen.

Some candidates will be invited to second round interviews, which may include evaluation of online tests (IQ and personality tests are done between 1st and 2nd round of interviews), another case interview and a conversation with the head of NN Consulting.

The tasks depend on your seniority. Project Associates and Senior Project Associates typically drive specific workstreams on projects. Tasks could include making analyses and recommendations, performing qualitative interviews, facilitating workshops and preparing presentations for decision making for senior leaders.

Project managers typically lead projects with 1-2 NN Consulting associates and in collaboration with the “client organisation”. Project managers also have access to a more senior sparring partner from NN Consulting.

Senior Project managers and People Managers lead bigger projects or multiple small projects at the same time. They also act as sparring partners on other projects and are part of the NN Consulting Leadership Team.

Workload varies across projects and over time. We work hard, but less than in external management consulting. Having a good work-life balance is important for us.

We have an onboarding program that takes 1-2 weeks, and includes introductions to the Novo Nordisk value chain, the strategy for the department, key tools we use and much more.

We offer internal and external training programs that are matched to your seniority level. For example, we have trainings in issue-driven problem solving, structured communication (both written and oral) and project management.

On projects, you will have regular feedback sessions with your project manager and regular development discussions with your Development Manager. We have semi-annual reviews where we discuss strengths and development areas.

The tenure at NN Consulting varies depending on personal career plans. Sooner or later, most of our colleagues move on to exciting leadership positions in different functional areas across Novo Nordisk.

No, business proficiency in English is the only language prerequisite.
