Disease Areas - Factor VII Deficiency

Factor VII Deficiency

  • FVII deficiency is an inherited bleeding disorder in which only low levels of factor VII are present in blood.

  • To date, treatments have relied on replacement therapy using plasma derived factor VII or prothrombin complex concentrates.
  • In patients with FVII deficiency, there is little correlation between residual FVII activity in the blood and severity of bleeding.
  • The frequency and severity of bleeding episodes is highly variable between patients with FVII deficiency.
  • Common sites of bleeding are joints, the nasal cavity and gums, other mucous membranes, and bleeding during and after surgery.
