NordiPen®

About the NordiPen® device

How should the NordiPen® device be stored?

The NordiPen® device is designed to work with precision. It should be handled with care to prevent it from becoming damaged. Protect it against dirt and dust.

Protect from direct sun light, and do not freeze.

For details on how to store the NordiPen® device, please read the Instructions for Use leaflet provided in the pack.

How should the NordiPen® device be cleaned?

You can clean your NordiPen® device by wiping it with moistened cotton wool and mild detergent. Do not wash or lubricate the NordiPen® device or soak it in alcohol. This may damage the mechanism. Remove dirt and dust with a soft brush.

The NordiPen® device must only be used as described in the Instructions for Use booklet contained in the box provided by the manufacturer. The manufacturer cannot be held responsible for any problems that may occur with the equipment if you have not followed these instructions.

How should the NordiPen® device be repaired?

Do not try to repair a faulty NordiPen® device.

If you find that your NordiPen® device is not working properly, Novo Nordisk will replace it, as long as:

  • You return the NordiPen® device to your doctor or pharmacy within 2 years of receiving it
  • You enclose any documents you were given when you received the NordiPen® device, and
  • Inspection by Novo Nordisk confirms that the NordiPen® device is faulty

What should I do if no growth hormone appears when I prime the NordiPen® device?

Check that your NordiPen® device was assembled correctly when you changed the cartridge. Make sure that the piston rod is completely inside the return mechanism. Also make sure that the mechanical section and the cartridge holder are screwed tightly together (see steps 3–5 in the Instructions for Use booklet). Repeat dialling 0.05 mg until a drop of growth hormone appears at the tip of the needle.

What should I do if no growth hormone appears when I prime the NordiPen® device, and the push-button will not go in?

The piston rod may not be far enough down the pen to reach the rear rubber stopper. Repeat the priming procedure.

Or, the needle may not be attached tightly enough. Put the outer cap back on the needle and tighten it in a clockwise direction.

Or, the needle may be blocked. Change the needle and prime your NordiPen® device until growth hormone appears at the needle tip.

If none of the above resolve this query, check to make sure the cartridge is not empty.

What should I do if I cannot press the push-button back to zero before I return the piston rod?

The return mechanism may be locked.

Make sure that the return mechanism is out as far as it will go (see step 3 in the Instructions for Use booklet). Then turn the return mechanism clockwise until the piston rod is completely inside the NordiPen® device.

Never push the piston rod back in.

What should I do if I cannot get the piston rod back inside the return mechanism when I change the cartridge?

The return mechanism may be locked.

Make sure that the return mechanism is out as far as it will go. Then turn the return mechanism clockwise until the piston rod is completely inside the NordiPen® device. (See step 3 in Instructions for Use booklet)

What should I do if the dial-a-dose selector is not at 0.0 when it is time to dial the dose?

DO NOT turn the dial back to zero. To reset, gently pull the top end of the pen away from the tip (barrel) of the NordiPen® device as far as it will go, and press the push-button all the way in.

What should I do if the push-button does not go all the way down during an injection, or the dose indicator window does not read 0.0 after an injection?

This probably means that there is not enough growth hormone left in the cartridge for the entire dose. If there was not an adequate amount of growth hormone in the cartridge for the full dose, you will see the number of mg you still need to inject in the dose indicator window.

Make a note of this, and change the cartridge.

What should I do if the push-button does not pop back up, or the piston rod cannot be turned back by the reset mechanism?

The reset mechanism may be locked, which is usually due to improper technique. Gently move the reset mechanism side to side until it unlocks, then call Novo Nordisk to review your operating technique.

What should I do if I have dropped my NordiPen® device on a hard surface?

Check the cartridge for cracks or damage, then inspect your NordiPen® device or NordiPenMate® auto-insertion accessory. If all appear intact, prime the NordiPen® device (see step 7 in Instructions for Use booklet), and try injecting into a wash-basin. If growth hormone is ejected, the delivery system should be working perfectly.

What should I do if my NordiPen® device seems broken or defective?

Do not try to fix it yourself. Call the physician’s office immediately so that you can arrange for your child to continue medication without missing doses. Novo Nordisk will replace the NordiPen® device if it is returned within 2 years of receipt, is accompanied by any documents you were given when you first received it, and if inspection by Novo Nordisk confirms that it is defective.
