Concrete and workable initiatives

The Copenhagen Roadmap presents the outcomes of the European Diabetes Leadership Forum, which gathered more than 700 leading experts, policymakers, industry,  NGO’s and healthcare professionals to discuss and agree on ambitions priorities and actions for improving diabetes care in Europe and OECD countries and to help break the curve of the diabetes pandemic.

The foundation of the Copenhagen Roadmap was developed by the hosts and partners to the European Diabetes Leadership Forum, and contributions to the content were made by speakers, panellists and participants who attended the Forum.

The aim of the Copenhagen Roadmap is to build on existing policies. It identifies practical solutions which can be used by all stakeholders working to improve diabetes prevention, detection and management. The initiatives can be used independently or in combination, and they can help form the content of a national diabetes programme.

It is not too late to share your good practice

The European Diabetes Leadership Forum highlighted that many great practices and initiatives already exist across Europe.  To facilitate knowledge sharing and demonstrate how the Copenhagen Roadmap could be implemented, the European Diabetes Leadership Forum introduced a Copenhagen Catalogue of Good Practices in Diabetes and encourages institutions in the public and private sector as well as civil society to share their good practices by visiting diabetesleadershipforum.eu. Submissions are open until the end of the Danish Presidency of the Council of the European Union on 30 June 2012.

About the European Diabetes Leadership Forum

The European Diabetes Leadership Forum took place in Copenhagen on 25-26 April 2012. It was held in response to the current climate of slow economic growth and increasingly ageing populations. The Forum was held under the auspices of the Danish Presidency of the Council of the European Union – the Danish Ministry of Health. The Forum was proudly hosted by the Organisation of Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the Danish Diabetes Association and was supported by Novo Nordisk.
