Novo Nordisk among the 100 most sustainable companies

- February 2005

A new global business ranking unveiled on 28 January at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland places Novo Nordisk among the 100 most sustainable companies in the world.

Novo Nordisk was one of just two Danish companies included in the Global 100 Sustainability List; the other is the windmill company Vestas Wind Systems A/S. The list places Novo Nordisk in the company of such international giants as Toyota Motor, the oil and gas company BP, and the aluminium manufacturer Alcoa Inc. A total of 20 US-based firms were included on the list, while British companies accounted for another 33.

Publication this spring

The Global 100 list, which will be published annually, is developed by Corporate Knights Inc., a Canadian media company which focuses on social responsibility in business.

Companies on the list were drawn from a pool of 2,000 international firms which were evaluated by analysts at Innovest, a leading environmental investment advisory firm with offices in New York, London, and Toronto.

The companies were rated on such criteria as strategic governance, environmental initiatives, and labour relations practices. Results of this evaluation are scheduled for publication this spring as a supplement to the respected newspaper The International Herald Tribune.
