Youth Panel

The Novo Nordisk Youth Panel is dedicated to defeating diabetes. As the stakeholders of the future, young people are integral to changing diabetes.

The Youth Panel, established in 2005, consists of 17 young people aged between 18 and 32. The panellists come from 14 different countries. They are Novo Nordisk’s partners in raising awareness about diabetes and contributed to the goal of achieving a UN Resolution on diabetes by working on the bottom-up perspective of the campaign. They also serve as a resource for Novo Nordisk in our effort to build key messages and communication tools and together, we evaluate channels to reach young people with diabetes awareness messages.

Making connections
Among their activities, the panel is making video documentaries of their work, setting up a website to exchange experiences and best practices, and expanding their networks to other young people who have an interest in diabetes—in part by creating local youth panels. Each member has developed an individual action plan outlining his/her actions as a diabetes advocate.

Ambassadors in South Africa
In December 2006, five members of the Novo Nordisk Youth Panel and 20 other young diabetes ambassadors attended the International Diabetes Federation's (IDF) World Diabetes Congress in Cape Town, South Africa, to participate in a Youth Leadership workshop hosted by IDF and sponsored by Novo Nordisk. This was followed by a Youth Challenge for Change Forum. At the forum, the youth ambassadors discussed what they can do to fight the global diabetes epidemic and improve conditions for those who have the disease.

Novo Nordisk will use the outcome of the Challenge as the foundation for future activities involving today’s diabetes leaders. Read more here.
