Awards and recognition
Awards and recognitions can be seen as an indicator of the stakeholders’ perception of a company based on its activities or the quality of its communications. Such accolades contribute to shaping the company's reputation in the public domain and among key opinion-formers and stakeholders.
Performance 2007
Once again in 2007 Novo Nordisk received a number of honours and awards relating to its performance and its Triple Bottom Line approach to doing business. In total, Novo Nordisk received 46 awards and recognitions around the world. The following is a record of some of the corporate and national awards.
Corporate awards
Ingeniøren: For the seventh year in a row, Novo Nordisk was rated number 1 in the annual image survey ‘Profil’ (as long as the rating has existed) in the Danish newspaper Ingenioeren annual image survey ‘Profil’.
Berlingske Nyhedsmagasin, Danish business magazine: For the third year in a row Novo Nordisk came out first overall in the annual image poll ‘Guld Image 2006’. Novo Nordisk was ranked number 1 in the categories communication, employees and responsibility, while taking second place in credibility.
The Danish Association of Chartered Accountants (FSR) and the Danish financial newspaper Børsen: Novo Nordisk won an award for the ‘best non-financial annual report’ issued in Denmark in 2006. This was the eleventh time Novo Nordisk had been recognised since FSR and Børsen established their sustainability awards in 1995. In addition, Novo Nordisk won the award for ‘best Corporate Responsibility report’ issued in Denmark in 2006 and an award for second-best online information amongst C20-index companies.
Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes—the world-leading indexes for sustainability-driven investment portfolios: Effective at the opening of equity markets on 24 September 2007, Novo Nordisk ranks as best-in-class in healthcare – one of 18 global supersectors. This is a result of the latest global analysis of corporate sustainability leadership, based on a thorough analysis of companies’ economic, environmental and social performance.
FT (Financial Times)/Citi Private Bank Environmental Award: Novo Nordisk was short-listed for the Greatest Improvement in Carbon Efficiency Achieved by a Large Enterprise, Europe for Novo Nordisk's Partnership with DONG Energy.
World Business in association with INSEAD: Novo Nordisk's Climate Strategy: Partnership with DONG Energy was awarded two prizes: Best Management and Sourcing of Energy and Best Sustainable Green Business.
Danish B2B Superbrand: Novo Nordisk was awarded the Danish B2B Superbrand for the sector ‘medical’ – one of 14 Danish superbrands.

Novo Nordisk Hayward
Novo Nordisk was ranked number 2 in ‘best IT workplace’ (Version2). In addition received a special prize for Work Life Balance in practice (Center for Work Life Balance), a prize for ‘lifelong learning’ (Great Place to Work Institute) and received the 2007 Business Environmental Achievement Award from the City of Hayward, California, USA.
Novo Nordisk Norway
Novo Nordisk ranked 5th in the Great Places to Work in Norway.
Novo Nordisk Sweden
Novo Nordisk ranked 3rd in the Great Places to Work in Sweden. In addition novo Nordisk Sweden received a special award in the category 'Pride.'
Novo Nordisk Pharma Ltd. (United Kingdom)
PharmaTimes Awards: Novo Nordisk employee Tania Worth received a 2nd place in the best CRA (Clinical Research Associate) of the year. The awards recognise excellence in clinical research. The competition is open to anyone working in clinical research that has responsibility for people, projects or process management (irrespective of their job title) in clinical research.
British Healthcare Business Intelligence Association (BHBIA): the Best of Business Intelligence Award was awarded to Novo Nordisk employee Paul O'Nions. The aim of the award is to celebrate the importance of gaining insight to customers and their prescribing habits using an intelligent and practical system.
Novo Nordisk Japan
Newsweek (Japanese edition) 'Global 500' survey: Novo Nordisk came in third place in a survey of 500 leading companies. Companies were evaluated on financial strength in terms of earnings, growth and safety, as well as corporate social responsibility in terms of corporate governance, employees, society and environment.
Novo Nordisk Canada
IMS Health Awards for Team Excellence in Pharmaceutical Marketing: Along with the award, Novo Nordisk was inducted into the Canadian Healthcare Marketing Hall of Fame for its leadership and creativity in diabetes marketing.
Novo Nordisk Inc. (USA)
NJBiz, New Jersey's largest weekly business newspaper: Novo Nordisk was named the ‘Best place to Work in New Jersey,’ based on the company's dedication to employees' growth and quality of life.
Novo Nordisk Inc. received an award from the Plainsboro Police for their contribution to their initiative with the New Jersey Special Olympics.
Novo Nordisk Inc. received an award from the American Cancer Society for continued support of the Run for Dad event.
Novo Nordisk Malaysia
Pharmaniaga & Ministry of Health, Malaysia: Excellent Vendor Award 2006 (presented in 2007) in the category: Best Medicine Supply for Vendor under MYR10 million.
Novo Nordisk Taiwan
Novo Nordisk Taiwan received several awards from patients associations, mainly for supporting those organisations’ activities such as diabetes patients’ camps or patients’ clubs via booth or speech programs. Novo Nordisk Taiwan received an award from Taiwan Diabetes Association for special dedication and contribution during World Diabetes Day 2007.
Awards to Novo Nordisk Taiwan for demonstrating social responsibility were given by the Taiwan Diabetes Educator Association; Kaohsiung Hospital; Taiwan Diabetes Association; the Children Growth Association; Taiwan Endocrine Association; the Taiwan Diabetes Care Association, and Tien Mu Elementary School for building a football playground.

Great Place to Work Institute Argentina: Ranked number 1 Best Pharmaceutical Company To Work For (and ranked number 2 company across all industries). For the last five years Novo Nordisk Argentina has been ranked the top pharmaceutical company to work for in Argentina.
Pharmaceutical Marketing Association in Argentina: Ranked number 1 Best Launching for Levemir Flex Pen and ranked number 2 Institutional Campaign for Changing Diabetes.
Novo Nordisk Mexico
Novo Nordisk Mexico was ranked as one of Best Places to Work in Mexico.
Novo Nordisk Slovenia
Slovenian Diabetes Association presented an award for continued support to the association.
Novo Nordisk Belarus
Received a diploma of Medical Library from the Belarus Republic for effective co-operation and finance help in implementation of the project "The establishment of the system of free access to national and international medical information in Medical Library".
Novo Nordisk Ukraine
The International Diabetes Association of Ukraine: Personal awards were granted to Novo Nordisk employees Olena Sakalo and Olexander Boiko for considerable contribution to spreading medical knowledge and awareness of the importance of a healthy lifestyle.
Diabetic Association in Rivne, west Ukraine: An award was given to the Ukrainian office for support and cooperation.
Production sites
Novo Nordisk, Clayton, North Carolina, USA
The Novo Nordisk production site in Clayton was recognised by the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation as a Platinum Sponsor for the strong support, by American Red Cross for continued strong support of blood drives, by the Johnston County Department of Social Services for strong support of their annual "Angel Tree." and recognized by Johnston County Hospice Organization for monetary assistance to restart a hospice program for Johnston County.
Novo Nordisk, Montes Claros, Brazil
The Novo Nordisk production site in Montes Claros was awarded for its Internship Program among best practices and was granted social responsibility award.
