Brazilian factory wins safety award
Can a relatively new addition to Novo Nordisk teach headquarters a thing or two about health and safety? The answer, it seems, is a clear yes.

26 of April 2007 Lise Kingo presented the 2006 Working Environment award to site Montes Claros in Brazil. Site Montes Claors was the first winner of the prestigious award outside of Denmark.
At the award ceremony in Montes Claros, Novo Nordisk’s chief of staffs noted that the factory already had an effective occupational health and safety organisation when Novo Nordisk acquired it in 2003.
Still, she said, “we have enjoyed following the construction process and watching how the team with dedication, creativity and efficient follow-up has managed to create one of the safest construction sites in the history of Novo Nordisk and the pharma business – a world-class achievement.”
That achievement was on display in December, when the health and safety aspects of the Filling Plant Montes Claros project were presented to Product Supply management. The impressive results were “truly an eye-opener to some of the sites in Denmark”, Lise Kingo said.
Buildup to inauguration day
The award ceremony was part of a much bigger event - the official inauguration of the Montes Claros factory, which recently completed a major expansion.
The Working Environment award was launched in 2003, to recognise exceptional health and safety efforts that:
• Motivate everyone to make efforts to improve the working environment
• Recognise an extraordinary effort
• Share better practices.
