Karin - Team leader

Name:
Karin
Education:
Production Engineer
Job title:
Team Leader
Department:
Primary Packaging Supply
”I am a team leader in Primary Packaging Supply, which supplies packaging for our insulin pens, that is glass, capsules and devices. We supply our filling departments, which are located in Chartres, Clayton, Bagsværd, Hillerød and Kalundborg, respectively. And we will soon also start delivering to Brazil, where we are in the process of constructing a factory.”
We think across boundaries
”We are a global organisation and we are a medical company. Both these factors together mean that we have a very complicated production process. But in reality it is very simple: The customers must have their vital medicine.
My team might be responsible for only a small step in a long and complicated process, but the fact is that if we were not here, the process would actually come to a halt.
We work in teams across professional borders. I have both buyers, technical buyers, warehousing staff and project managers in my team. Our different education and training, areas of expertise and abilities are something that binds us together – not something that separates us.
We are always thinking: Can we do better? It is really a question of breaking established patterns of behaviour and changing roles. Daring to do that – and of course having permission to do so. And that we have.”
Leadership is being available
”You have to put your special expertise aside when you become a manager. Leadership is an area of professional expertise in itself. For me good leadership is first and foremost being available: That my staff can get hold of me and use me at all times.
At Novo Nordisk the production process is long and complicated. So it is important to set sub-goals so that success can be achieved along the way, and sharing them with your staff.”
