Sherry - Warehouse Operator

Name:
Sherry
Education:
Two years of college; eight years in U.S. Army medical supply
Job title:
Warehouse Operator II
Department:
Warehouse Department
Team Effort
"In the warehouse, we were the first group at Novo Nordisk in Clayton to use the concept of the high performance team. ... A lot of people are used to supervisors who tell them what to do. The team concept is very challenging. I think management is trying to get us to do more independent thinking."
Interest in Workforce
"Novo Nordisk cares a lot about its people. It's not just about getting to work and getting the job done. Even with personal problems you're having, they're willing to listen and see what they can do to make it better, because they want you here. They want you to concentrate on what you have to do. ... They want you at your best. This is a very important product."
Not a Typical Warehouse
"The warehouse I'm assigned to is not your typical warehouse. When people say warehouse they think you're just driving a forklift and moving boxes from one place to another. But it’s not, it's very challenging. … We see the product before it's made. It comes in and goes through the different departments. They make it, and then we get it back and send it to the customer."
Job Satisfaction
"When I see the product has been made and packaged, we send it out the door. I get closure knowing that we've done our job well, that somebody is going to get that insulin and make them better. It just gives me pleasure knowing that we're saving someone's life with a life-sustaining drug."
Personal Growth
"The team concept, I think, brought a lot out of me, because coming from the military; you didn't have much freedom to make decisions. Here, I've learned about myself that I am stronger in areas that I didn't realize. My communication skills have improved and my confidence level has increased. You're put in different situations and you don't have anyone standing and watching you. You get to use your own ideas more. It brings out the best in you. Here we're given more opportunity to think on our own."
