Novo Nordisk in Hjørring - Needle Manufacturing & Sourcing (NMS)
NMS is responsible for the production of all needles for Novo Nordisk’s pen systems and other delivery devices.
We are located in Hjørring where the factory employs about 210 people in total: 150 skilled and semi-skilled workers and 60 white-collar staff.
NMS is responsible for the production of many millions of needles annually. Every needle will be used by a person with diabetes – and it must work. Thus quality is paramount and the guiding rule for daily life at NMS. Production in Hjørring is around-the-clock and includes:

Moulding
All of the plastic components that surround the needle are moulded in the moulding department. The fully-automatic process meets all hygienic and environmental regulations. NMS’s toolmakers and fitters make the moulds themselves and maintain all the machines.
Assembling and packaging
After moulding, the plastic components are assembled with the needle. This process is also fully automatic and uses the latest technology in the field, much of which was developed by NMS engineers and technicians.
After assembly, needles are packed into boxes. After sterilisation, the packaging robot prepares the boxes for delivery.
Logistics
The 15 employees in Logistics are responsible for purchasing all raw materials, storage, production planning and delivery of the needles worldwide.
New product entry
New Product Entry main tasks are to introduce new products to the production and to optimise already existing production processes.

Production personnel need to have a solid education – with good skills in Danish, maths and English – and the willingness to undergo training provided by Novo Nordisk. -

Quality is a top priority and every employee is expected to maintain that high quality even under stress. -

Everyone – from the most senior executive to the youngest production worker – is part of a team. The individual teams plan and divide their work within the overall framework provided.
