Novo Nordisk Haemophilia Foundation - NNHF

Improving haemophilia care and treatment in the developing world
The Novo Nordisk Haemophilia Foundation (NNHF) was created in 2005 to address the significant need for improving haemophilia care in the developing world where haemophilia is currently not a healthcare priority and many patients still go undiagnosed or are inadequately treated.
“Our objective is to improve the care and treatment of haemophilia patients, wherever they live”, says Kåre Schultz, Chief Operating Officer of Novo Nordisk and president of the NNHF, when he inaugurated the foundation.
Its programmes include awards, fellowships and development projects for patient education, doctor, nurse and laboratory staff training, as well as setting up diagnostic facilities and patient registries.
NNHF supports transfer of expertise within the haemophilia communities across international development boundaries and focuses essentially on countries in the developing world.
In these countries, NNHF cooperates with partners, such as health ministries and other healthcare authorities or institutions, non-governmental and patient organisations, healthcare professionals, other foundations and trusts.
Within this short space of a few years, NNHF has agreed to support development projects in eighteen countries, including China, Iraq, Chile, Macedonia, Brazil, Jordan, Palestine, Poland, Uzbekistan, Cuba and Venezuela.
NNHF is an independent trust, located in Zurich, Switzerland. The Foundation is governed by the Foundation Council consisting of worldwide renowned external experts in the field of haemophilia as well as key representatives from Novo Nordisk Executive Management. The Foundation Council convenes four times a year.
