When to seek emergency help
You should seek emergency assistance if you recognize any of the following symptoms:
- You do not feel safe caring for your child at home
- Your child continues to vomit, especially if he/she vomits greenish material
- Your child is apathetic or incoherent
- Your child's breathing is heavy and fast
- Your child has severe stomach pain
- Your child's blood sugar is high and there are ketones in the urine despite several injections of short-acting insulin
In some cases, your child may need to be admitted to the hospital. If possible, admission should be to a paediatric department under the care of doctors and nurses experienced in working with children who have diabetes.
