“I feel that the graduate programme is like a climbing wall. It will always be challenging, but it is up to you just how challenging you make it for yourself. You can choose how difficult the path is that you follow and therefore how big the personal reward is. I like this freedom and the trust that the company has in you to make your own personal choice,” explains Maria Christiansen.

Successful company
The world leader Did you know that Novo Nordisk is the world leader in diabetes care?
We are an ambitious international company and have experienced significant growth in recent years. In 2011, Novo Nordisk sales totalled DKK 66,346 million (EUR 8.9 million), with diabetes care accounting for approximately 75% of our sales.
In the biopharmaceuticals business sector, we have a leading position within the therapeutic areas of haemophilia management, growth hormone therapy and hormone replacement therapy.
Novo Nordisk has more than 32,000 employees in 74 countries and we market our products in 179 countries. This growth is expected to continue in the future so that by 2018 we will employ around 45,000 people.
“When I graduated in 2009 the financial world was crashing around me and the US job market was less than ideal. My MBA trained me to be international, so I wanted global experience. Novo Nordisk was a company that was financially secure and growing and the graduate programme offered me the opportunity to work in Denmark and another country. It was a perfect fit for someone like me seeking global experience,” says Christopher Hedquist.
Changing lives
Every 10 seconds, somewhere in the world, two people develop diabetes and one person dies from diabetes-related complications.
This makes diabetes one of the leading causes of death across the globe. The disease currently affects 250 million people worldwide and this number is expected to grow to 380 million by 2025.
Novo Nordisk is committed to providing treatment for people with diabetes and invests in research to not only find better treatment solutions but also to ultimately find a cure for diabetes.

The Novo Nordisk Way
When working in Novo Nordisk, you get the feeling of a special company culture. This culture has developed since the 1920s – it is our heritage, built on the work of past and present Novo Nordisk employees.
The way we do things is called the The Novo Nordisk Way. Our values, work ethics and respect for society and the environment attracts employees who are passionate about what they do and the difference they can make in the world.
“I first really got to know about Novo Nordisk by attending a dinner at my university hosted by Novo Nordisk. I remember being impressed with the way employees spoke with such evident pride about what they did and who they worked for. Now, after joining the graduate programme, I can honestly say I am experiencing the same sense of pride. We actually do live by our company vision and values. We do make a difference to society. And now I 'burn' to work for Novo Nordisk,” explains Jimi Kehlet Frederiksen.
