Reports from production sites

To account for impacts and activities at community level, individual reports are issued for eight of Novo Nordisk’s largest production sites. Data for the remaining sites can be found in the interactive charts.
These reports – available from 29 March - are published in local languages and also available in English. To order, go to the download centre.

Accounting for performance

The reports cover the sites’ social and environmental performance as well as socio-economic impacts in the local community. They serve two purposes:

To provide neighbours, the local community and business partners with an insight into Novo Nordisk’s way of doing business and how social and environmental responsibility is put into practice.
To account for key environmental and social impacts in accordance with regulatory requirements.

For Novo Nordisk employees at these sites, the annual environmental and social report is a status on their work during the year.

Targets and responsibilities

While the formal responsibility for performance on targets resides with the site manager, most employees are actively involved in environmental management as well as social responsibility activities. The site’s overall business targets include environmental and social performance, and these targets translate into individual targets throghout the organisation.

Reporting in accordance with requirements

For five of the Danish sites it is mandatory to publish green accounts on an annual basis. The site reports (with annexes) fulfill this requirement.
At a corporate level, Novo Nordisk reports in accordance with the GRI 2002 Sustainability Reporting Guidelines. The site reports account for performance on a number of GRI performance indicators, notably providing detailed data on environmental impacts and labour standards. The interactive charts give access to comparable data by year and by site.

Assurance

The environmental and social data in the Annual Report build on information from Novo Nordisk’s 14 production sites and all Novo Nordisk affiliates around the world.

Since 1994, the validity of these data has been assured externally by independent assurance providers, in accordance with the Novo Nordisk Way of Management.
