Products and services in haemostasis management

Dansk version

Coagulation is a complex process involving a number of compounds, called blood coagulation factors, acting together in a chain reaction. Haemophilia, a condition with very sparse blood coagulation, occurs when this chain reaction is defective because one of the coagulation factors, either Factor VIII or IX, is missing.

Novo Nordisk has developed a product called NovoSeven® - a recombinant Factor VIIa that does not replace Factor VIII or IX, but enables coagulation to proceed in their absence. NovoSeven® can therefore be used in people that have developed a resistance to these factors.

A total of six NovoSeven® clinical studies were initiated in 2001, and Novo Nordisk expects to start reporting from these trials during 2002. In order to meet the expected future demand for NovoSeven® , a new NovoSeven® plant is under construction in Hillerød, Denmark.
